We are pleased and excited to announce that Ms. Jennifer and Ms. Lori are both certified in Acrobatic Arts. The Acrobatic Arts training and certification course provided extensive information on proper placement and technique, along with hands-on training in spotting and progression. This will teach students to have the building blocks to progress safely and quickly from one level to the next.
"Cirque du Soleil sees acrobatic training for dancers valuable in the same light as it sees ALL multidisciplinary training for dancers valuable for today's (and tomorrows) artistic workforce. To work in the dance milieu today, mastering several disciplines is almost a necessity; for Cirque du Soleil multidisciplinary is an absolute must for the majority of the dance roles.
It is not necessarily acrobatic training that would be needed for most Cirque du Soleil dance roles, but for some it is a definite requirement. For other roles it is a mix of opposing dance styles needed, dance + physical acting, dance + acting + acrobatics or some other physical non-dance discipline. In the global dance market today, however, an acrobatics background is a huge asset, and some cases actually a minimum prerequisite.
Having universal certification standards would help immensely in measuring where a dancer stands on the global market before actually watching them dance. Teaching standards at the moment are random - which is why I usually do not even consult a CV before watching a video job application. The proof is in the pudding - exactly what can the dancer do, and how well? A universal standard would help control the quality of teaching as well as help students advance to the next level of their dance education only when they are ready for it. Advancing to a level above one's capacity can be not only dangerous, but can actually have negative effects on technical training. It can cause a student to regress instead of advance."

We are beyond excited to begin our baton twirling program at Showcase Dance Centre! Ms. Jennifer is a Baton Arts Certified Teacher. The Baton Arts program is based on safe, logical and effective progressions with proven results in the five divisions of Baton Arts: Contact-Full Hand; Contact-Flips and Fingers; Rolls; Aerials; and Body. Developed from years of successful coaching with input from professionals and experts in baton twirling, Baton Arts, AcroDance, ballet, modern dance, jazz, contortion, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, juggling, yoga, acro yoga, pilates, physiotherapy, color guard, hand balancing and more, you will not find a more comprehensive program. Simple thoughtful progressions take the beginner preschool level twirler from circle passes and wrist twirls to the advanced twirler effortlessly manipulating the baton for spectacular stage and competitive performances!. We are looking forward to creating a performance team to participating in local community events. While teaching the art of twirling we know that it encourages balance, endurance, control, self-confidence and self-esteem.
Baton Twirling is and artistic and aerobic sport that combines dance and acrobatic skills, while manipulating one, two, three batons. Baton is done individually, in pairs and in teams. Showcase Dance Centre's twirling program aims to educate students about baton twirling, develop skills and provide performance opportunities in the community. Batons are not provided for use during class, students must purchase their own for at home practice.
Make sure to register for your baton classes here: Look for Baton
If you would like to have a new baton for your twirlers first class and are unsure of what length to order, we can measure them for you!
Baton cost from our studio is $30.00 or you are welcome to order from the link below. We use the 7/16" diameter and prefer the Super Star, the unique star shaped ball won't allow the baton to roll away when dropped
Shoes: please wear either "clean" white bottom tennis shoes or jazz shoes
Attire: tight fitting shirts or leotard and shorts/pants, no baggy clothing. Batons will get caught in baggy clothing
No Jewelry other than small earrings.
Hair: Hair must be secured back away from face (ponytail/bun).
Baton: Must bring baton for each class
During the 2020 pandemic Ms. Jennifer became certified with Alixa Flexibility taking international online zoom classes. We are very enthusiastic to begin our journey with introducing this method with our students. The Alixa Flexibility Method works with all levels of abilities & ages, building a solid flexibility foundation with the focus on injury prevention and safety.
Creator: Alixa Flexibility Method
Alixa is a former rhythmic gymnastics trainer and a contortion trainer for circus, as well as a former performer and circus artist. She developed her techniques for teaching flexibility after seeing so many athletes have to quit from injuries due to improper stretching or lack of stretching. techniques from studies of circus techniques from various countries, sports physical therapists, Pilates, sports doctors, Kinesiology studies, and working with thousands of students from different sports. She is constantly creating new material based on emerging studies - evolving her techniques to suit people's current lifestyles and changing bodies.
Alixa has worked for Cirque du Soleil as a choreographer, trainer and creator, Cavalia as an equestrian performer & flexibility trainer, as an independent swinging trapeze solo artist & aerial contortionist, and is the creator of the Mystic Pixies Contortion troupe.
